Alicia Barnes, a New Jersey corrections officer and the sole owner and operator of Just Taxes Unlimited LLC, a tax preparation company, has pled guilty to filing false tax returns.

Between 2006 and 2008, Barnes filed 42 false tax returns on behalf of clients at her tax preparation business. Not only did she create deductions for charitable contributions and unreimbursed employee expenses, but she failed to report the income she earned through her business. In total, Barnes collected a tax loss of roughly $200,000.

Last Wednesday, Barnes pled guilty to counts of aiding and assisting the preparation of filing false personal federal tax returns and knowingly subscribing to false personal federal income tax returns. She has agreed to make full restitution to the IRS.

For each count, Barnes faces a maximum of 3 years in prison and a fine of $250,000. She is scheduled to be sentenced later this year on November 9.
